The Vonta Leach/Ledonia Wright Scholarship
The Vonta Leach/Ledonia Wright Scholarship was established by Vonta Leach in 2013 to honor Ledonia Wright, who was a distinguished professor at East Carolina University from 1974-1976. Professor Wright used her considerable talents and education to ease human misery and to raise the aspirations of citizens in this region and students at East Carolina University.
Eligible applicants must be admitted to ECU to attend as a first time, first year student. Applicants must have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA; demonstrate leadership and commitment to service through extracurricular activities or community service.
Additional consideration may be given to
- First generation college students.
- Students from disadvantaged backgrounds who exhibit special effort and determination to overcome difficult educational, personal, and family circumstances.
- Or students that receive outstanding endorsements.

The Dr. Virginia D. Hardy Scholarship Endowed Fund
This scholarship is for Brody medical students who have demonstrated (1) commitment to service through community volunteer work, (2) interest in serving underserved communities in eastern North Carolina, and (3) leadership in their academic careers. It honors long-standing administrator and campus leader, Dr. Virginia Dare Hardy.

The Andrew Best Scholarship
The Andrew Best Scholarship is awarded to a deserving medical student in honor of this long-standing advocate and supporter of the Brody School of Medicine.

The Danny R. Scott Scholarship
This College of Business award is for a full-time, undergraduate student that contributes to the Educational Diversity of the College of Business and exhibits academic merit and financial need.

The Laura Marie Leary Elliott Scholarship
Laura Marie Leary Elliott, of Vanceboro, Craven County, North Carolina, was the first full-time African-American student to attend East Carolina University. Born Laura Marie Leary, Elliott graduated high school as valedictorian of her class at Pitt County Training School in Calico, NC. Elliot earned her B.S. in business administration in 1966, making her ECU’s first African-American graduate and the university’s first black alumna.This scholarship serves to honor Laura Marie Leary Elliott and as such will be awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics disciplines or fields that been historically underrepresented by students of color.

The National Pan-Hellenic Council Scholarship
The NPHC Garden Scholarship has been created to support students from the National Pan-Hellenic Council. These students have maintained high academic achievement throughout their East Carolina University college experience. Funds for this scholarship were provided by donors from NPHC Alumni, Community partners, and ECU staff and faculty.

The Ledonia S. Wright Memorial Scholarship
The Ledonia S. Wright Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of Ledonia S. Wright, a distinguished professor of Community Health at East Carolina University from 1974-1976. Professor Wright used her considerable talents and education to ease human misery and to raise the aspirations of citizens in this region and students at East Carolina University.
Eligible applicants must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student. Undergraduate applicants must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and at least 24 credit hours at ECU. Applicants must demonstrate leadership and commitment to service through extracurricular activities or community service.

The John P. Holt Sr., MD Endowment Scholarship (R)
The John P. Holt Scholarship is a need-based award for a Brody School of Medicine student who has demonstrated initiative and interest in health issues that disproportionately affect minorities and disadvantaged groups. The Holt Scholar strives to serve the field of medicine in a similar manner as the late John P. Holt, Sr, MD, served his community. The scholarship is available to current and entering students in good academic standing, and is renewable annually.
